Wellness & Vaccinations

At Noah’s Caring Hands Animal Hospital at Geist, we truly believe that the best thing you could ever do for your cherished pet is to provide them with quality wellness care throughout their lifetime. Veterinary care isn’t just for when your pet is sick, but rather it’s something your pet should receive on a regular basis to help prevent illness, and to extend and improve his or her quality of life. The wellness services provided at Noah’s have been designed to address the unique needs of our patients as they age, from puppy and kitten-hood right through the golden years, and every milestone along the way.

We have created a comprehensive yet affordable system of care that will support your pet’s ongoing health over the course of his or her lifetime. We provide a wide range of services, from routine physical exams to nutritional and behavioral counseling. We’re prepared to do whatever it takes to help your companion enjoy a lifetime of good health.

One of the biggest benefits of making a commitment to routine wellness care is the opportunity these annual or semi-annual visits provide for our doctors to identify and address potential medical concerns before they develop into a more serious and costly problem. Early detection of disease is critically important, because it can vastly improve the chances of a positive outcome for your pet. It’s also much less expensive to prevent and address early onset of illness than it is to treat it once it’s progressed.

We have worked hard to develop a system of care that addresses all of your pet’s changing health care needs that occur over the course of his or her life. For puppies and kittens, this may mean nutritional advice, parasite prevention and a vaccination plan. For older pets, this may include internal medicine and diagnostic testing to monitor for any changes in health and manage ongoing wellness. For senior pets, this includes specialized geriatric care. We’re prepared to work with you every step of the way to help your pet enjoy a lifetime of good health.

Wellness visits do more than just manage your pet’s current health. These routine visits also provide our vets with the opportunity to identify potential concerns and changes within your pet’s health as they occur, so they can be addressed right away. Prevention and treatment of early onset disease provides for a much better chance of a positive outcome, and is a much more cost effective way for you to approach your pet’s health care. It’s always less expensive to prevent a disease or treat it early than it is to manage it once it’s progressed.

Noah’s Caring Hands Animal Hospital’s comprehensive wellness and preventative health care recommendations include all of the following:

12 Body System Examination – All wellness visits include a complete examination of the body to monitor both external and internal system function. Because our pets age at a much faster rate than us, checkups are recommended every six months, if possible.

Customized Vaccination Plan – Vaccinations are important in protecting your pet from a wide variety of serious, sometimes life threatening diseases. Yet not every vaccine is necessarily appropriate for every animal. Our wellness exams include an in-depth analysis of your pet’s lifestyle and risk factors, which we will then use to develop a customized vaccination plan perfectly tailored to meet your pet’s individual needs.

Preventative Blood Work – With many illnesses and diseases, it’s not always easy to detect their presence through an external exam. Comprehensive wellness care includes routine blood work to help our doctors identify and address any potential medical concerns.

Preventative Dental Care – Dental care plays an important role in your pet’s overall well-being, which is why we incorporate a dental exam as a part of our wellness services. We’ll check your pet’s teeth and gums for any signs of disease, provide recommendations for various products and offer demonstrations of at-home dental care techniques.

Parasite Prevention – If you’re not taking the appropriate measures to protect your pet, you are placing them at a much greater risk of falling victim to external and internal parasites that can wreak havoc on their body and their health. Some parasites can even be spread to humans. Our wellness care includes a parasite prevention plan that will keep your pet and your family safe.

Nutrition – The right diet and an appropriate exercise plan can help extend and improve the quality of your pet’s life. Nutrition can also assist in managing a variety of existing medical conditions, making them much more tolerable for your pet. As part of your companion’s overall wellness plan, we’ll provide guidance and advice on food and physical activities to keep your pet maintain optimum health.

Grooming and Bathing – Regular grooming and bathing promotes healthy skin and a clean, fresh coat. At Noah’s Caring Hands, we believe that external health is just as important as your pet’s internal health, so we include grooming and bathing as part of our recommendations for wellness.

Lastly, but certainly not least, when you bring your pet to us for regular visits, it allows all of us at Noah’s Caring Hands to get to know you both better and to develop the all-important doctor-patient bond that we feel is so critical in providing quality veterinary care. The more we learn about you and your companion, the better we are able to develop a more customized and highly effective approach to keeping your pet healthy and happy for life.

Dentistry

Keeping your pet’s teeth and gums healthy plays an important role in helping your companion enjoy a long, healthy life. Dental disease is one of the most commonly diagnosed medical conditions in adult companion animals, and it’s something that can negatively impact your pet’s entire body. The best way to protect your four-legged family member from developing this dangerous condition is by making a commitment to regular dental care, both professional and at home.

Noah’s Caring Hands Animal Hospital provides a broad range of veterinary dentistry services designed to help your pet maintain good oral health throughout his or her entire life. Our team of highly skilled veterinarians and technicians are experienced in all aspects of pet dentistry and can provide both preventative care as well as the treatment of existing oral health problems. We’ll have your pet smiling in no time!

Our comprehensive preventative pet dentistry includes routine examinations of the teeth, gums and other mouth structures and regular dental prophylaxis (cleaning) using ultrasonic instruments to bring your pet’s teeth to a healthy and vibrant shine. If necessary, we also have the equipment in-house to perform detailed dental radiographs (x-rays), to further identify potential dental problems so we can address them in a timely manner.

Whether your pet is in need of preventive dental care or a sudden dental problem occurs, we are prepared to assist in every way we can to treat and manage the situation. This may include anything from our prophylactic dental cleanings, extractions, as well as the treatment of existing disease. Whatever your pet’s oral health concerns may be, you can trust us to take care of it!

Pets that are experiencing dental problems may exhibit one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Bad Breath

  • Discolored Teeth

  • Broken, Cracked or Loose Teeth

  • Red, Swollen or Bleeding gums

  • Difficulty Chewing and/or Reluctance to Play with Chew Toys

If your pet shows any of these signs of symptoms, give us a call to schedule an exam. The sooner we are able to address the problem, the better the outcome for your companion.

It’s important to note that any animal undergoing a dental procedure will need to be anesthetized for their safety and ours. As part of our ongoing commitment to patient safety, pre-anesthetic blood work, IV catheter placement with fluids, and cardiopulmonary monitoring is provided to ensure optimum well-being – before, during and following the procedure. We may also use other types of pain management, such as local anesthetic blocks and prescribed medication to manage pain during the recovery process, following the procedure. Our goal is to keep your pet as comfortable and safe as possible at all times.

Finally, but equally as important, is the role that you play as your pet’s caring owner. Dental care doesn’t just happen within the walls of our clinic. It’s something that should be carried out on a daily basis, through brushing and the use of specially designed products. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff is always on hand to provide you with all of the advice, guidance and tips needed to help manage your companion’s oral health at home, in between vet visits. Together we’ll work hard to help your pet enjoy a clean, healthy smile for life!

X-ray Examination

Diagnostics

When your pet is sick or has been injured, it may not always be easy to tell that something is wrong just by looking at them. What’s more, many pets have a high tolerance for pain, and may not show any outward signs of a problem. That’s why veterinary diagnostics are so important. These invaluable tools allow us to look below the surface of the skin and learn precisely what’s happening inside your pet’s body so that we can quickly and accurately diagnose and treat the problem. The sooner we can get to the bottom of what may be ailing your pet, the better the chances of a positive outcome.

Noah’s Caring Hands Animal Hospital utilizes a wide range of diagnostic tools to help manage the ongoing health of our patients. Whether it’s a simple blood test or something more complex and in-depth, such as an x-ray or ultrasound image, we’re fully prepared and well equipped to get to the bottom of whatever may be ailing your pet so we can address the problem in a timely manner. With many illnesses, time is of the essence. Our facility features an in-house laboratory, which aids in the fast and accurate retrieval of test results.

Our diagnostic services allow us to screen for a number of medical conditions that may be otherwise difficult to detect on the surface of the skin, including diabetes, adrenal gland disease and thyroid disease. We perform the following routine and advanced diagnostic tests in-house for our patients:

  • Blood Work

  • Parasite Testing

  • Testing for Infectious Disease

  • Allergy Screening

  • Urinalysis

  • Fecal Testing

  • Digital Radiology (X-ray)

  • Dental X-ray

  • Ultrasound Imaging

In cases for which our veterinarians feel that your pet would benefit from more extensive or specialized testing, Noah’s Caring Hands Animal Hospital has developed relationships with a number of high quality external laboratories where we can send your pet’s tests and be confident of a timely and accurate result.

Rest assured that whatever may be bothering your animal companion, we’re prepared to solve even the most challenging of cases with speed and accuracy and help return your pet to good health as soon as possible.

Surgery

Surgery

Chances are, at some point during your pet’s lifetime, he or she will need to undergo some type of surgery, whether it’s something as simple as a routine spay or neuter or a more complex procedure. At Noah’s Caring Hands Animal Hospital, we know that having to turn your pet over for surgery can be a frightening and stressful time for you both. That’s why we work tirelessly to ensure that each surgical procedure performed at our hospital is as stress-free and comfortable an experience as possible. We want you to feel confident knowing that your pet will be in exceptional hands with our surgical team.

Our highly skilled doctors are experienced in performing a wide range of surgeries, from routine to complex, using the most modern equipment and advanced surgical techniques. Our goal is to deliver the very best available surgical care with each procedure we perform, while always adhering the highest standards of care. Regardless of what surgery your pet needs, we will always place his or her safety and comfort as our highest priority.

Before your pet even enters the operating room, we will perform a thorough physical exam and run a number of diagnostic tests to determine whether or not they are healthy enough to proceed. We never want to place our patients at risk, and we take every precaution to ensure that all surgeries are performed in the safest, most efficient manner possible. The sooner we can get your pet fixed up, the sooner we can have them on the road to a full and speedy recovery, which is always our ultimate goal.

When your pet has been cleared for surgery, we’ll get right to work developing and implementing an appropriate pain management plan that is customized to your pet’s specific needs, using only the safest anesthetic products. During surgery, your pet will remain as comfortable as possible on our heated surgery table, and his or her vital signs will be closely monitored by our highly skilled veterinary technicians. This includes heart rate, respiratory rate, EKG and oxygen saturation, to ensure your pet’s optimum well-being at all times.

Once surgery is complete, your pet will be moved to our warm, comfortable recovery area where he or she will continue to be closely monitored. A member of our team will contact you to explain how everything went and arrange a time for you to come pick your pet up. When you arrive to retrieve your pet, we’ll provide you with complete aftercare instructions as well as a pain management plan, if necessary, to help your pet recover comfortably once he or she returns home.

Regardless of the type of surgery your pet needs, you can trust the experienced, compassionate staff at Noah’s

Caring Hands Animal Hospital.

Nutrition & Weight Management

Good nutrition and a healthy weight are things you should strive to help your pet achieve over the course of their entire life. Without the right nutrition, your pet may be missing out on feeling his or her very best. What’s more, if your companion is carrying even just a few too many pounds, they could be more susceptible to various illnesses and diseases, such as arthritis and diabetes. The staff at Noah’s Caring Hands Animal Hospital is well versed and experienced in every aspect of animal nutrition and can help get your pet on the right track to optimum health.

Our nutritional counseling begins with a comprehensive analysis of your pet’s overall health and well-being. We’ll look at everything from age and breed to weight, activity level and the existence of illness or disease, all of which will allow us to determine precisely what your pet’s nutritional needs are. We’ll then use this information to develop a customized plan that will have your pet feeling his or her best. We’ll also advise you on how much food and how often to feed your companion to avoid potential weight gain.

Next, we’ll assess your pet’s activity level. Exercise should be a part of your companion’s daily routine, even if he or she is older or suffers from a medical condition. Our experienced staff will work with you to determine which types of activities, and at what intensity level, would be best suited for your particular pet. We’ll then incorporate that into our nutritional plan to provide you with a customized diet and exercise program that will help your pet achieve and maintain his or her ideal weight and satisfy all of their nutritional and dietary needs at the same time.

You want what’s best for your pet, and so do we! Let us develop the perfect plan to help bring out the very best in your four-legged friend!
