The Humane Society for Hamilton County says it is in desperate need for more space after 33 dogs and cats were brought to the Noblesville shelter over the weekend.
Dog crates fill the lobby, stacked two high.
"I've got dogs in the office, the kennel kitchen, and every nook and cranny," said Rebecca Stevens, the Humane Society's executive director.
Seven more animals were brought to the shelter Monday, three more Tuesday and one more before noon Wednesday, bringing the total to 465 animals -- 195 dogs and 270 cats -- being cared for by the shelter.
That's too many, Stevens said. Of those animals, 170 are in foster homes, with the remaining 295 animals at the facility at 1721 Pleasant St.
"We need people to come out and help," said Stevens, who is pleading for the community to adopt or foster an animal.
